When my elderly parents moved after many years in the same house, lots of their possessions were simply thrown out due to age. One of the few items that were still in good shape after decades of wear and tear were their wooden coat hangers. I remember hanging my winter coat on those hangers as a young child. My parents heavy coats as well as visitors coats were all hung on the same wooden hangers. For years those hangers were used and never had so much of a scratch on them. The wooden clothes hangers in the bedroom closet were in the same condition. The only sign of age was the dust on the suits from lack of use. My father never would have hung up his best suit on anything less than a wooden clothes hanger and my mother’s good dresses that came back from the dry cleaners were always promptly removed and hung up in her closet on a wooden hanger.
