Whether small, medium or a large coop, building chicken coop can be as fun and easy as building a furnished doll house. Chickens also require a suitable place to live and breed. Building chicken coop will help in keeping them healthy and happy. Certain steps need to be followed to ensure proper building. There are two stages to go through, planning and construction.
Planning
Look out for the area on a property, where the coop is to be built. The coop should be at a high spot where the water cannot stand to make puddles of mud. Determining the size is important based on the number of chickens to stores.
Sketch out a design including a door and windows to enter and collect eggs. Also make sure that inside of the coop, there is a place for next boxes. Purchase the building materials based on the plans including feeders, waterers and straw.
Building
Construct the coop with the windows and door facing the sunny side with a roof to not let the rain fall inside. Place chicken wires or sliding glass to keep predators out and a latch on the door for locking. Attach the nest boxes along the walls and perches as well, higher from the ground filled with straws.
Put fencing around the coop burying them almost 12 inches deep. Putting tall grasses can also hide the chickens from predators. The feeders and waters should be placed at about the height of chickens.
