Everyone experiences fear at some point in life. Many people have experienced some form of fear while driving – this is still normal. However, there are some people who constantly experience fear of driving a car under some conditions like rain, at night or fog or generally get panic attacks when they drive in some places like driving over high bridges, in tunnels, in intersections, freeways, busy streets or in heavy traffic. This is a very serious form of fear because it has managed to ruin the lives of sufferers by getting in their professional, social and family lives. It comes as an irrational fear that a person takes as something temporary that they can overcome. The fear of driving is a condition that gets worse with time; the best way to deal with it is treat it as soon as you are certain it is persistent.
The fear of driving can mess up your life socially, if you cannot drive yourself to a big family event or to meet friends and rely on public transport or hikes, how long can you do that? Also, it is important that you drive yourself to work or at least drive at work. If you cannot do this, even your workmates and boss will not have a great opinion on you, your confidence, competence or personality. If you need to lead a normal life, you should seek a solution to the fear of driving as soon as you can because this is the only way you can stay in control of your emotions and your life.
The main question here is how to overcome being afraid of driving. Since fear is something that comes from your mind, it can only be gotten rid of the same way. You will have to take charge of your emotions, feelings, memories and imaginations especially when driving to prevent negative thoughts from leading you to imagining the worst, which will cause panic driving attacks.
