When To Use an Eviction Lawyer

If you are a tenant long enough, you may come up against a landlord that was wonderful and nice when you were moving in, but then turned ugly once there was a problem. Maybe the landlord has decided to evict you and you don’t believe they have any of the facts correct or feel like the landlord is bullying you. Here are some reasons to get an eviction lawyer:
- Verbal rental agreements can often be the greatest source of disputes between the landlord and the tenant. It ends up in an argument about who said what and how the original deal was agreed. This is a great situation where an eviction lawyer can help you understand your rights as a tenant. He should also be able to explain the risks of continuing to argue with the landlord and what the landlord can do.
- If you believe the landlord is trying to bully you into doing something that you don’t feel is correct, legal or ethical, hiring an eviction lawyer may help resolve the problem. They will be able to show the judge in eviction court that you did nothing wrong and that the landlord has simply brought a frivolous action against you. The lawyer will be able to make sure that you have all the protections of being a tenant that are afforded under the law.
- Unfortunately, when you know that the landlord has hired an attorney, it is probably best if you hire one also. Commercial evictions often will be done by attorneys because of the more complex contracts that are often involved. You don’t want to get caught trying to negotiate with an attorney on the landlord’s side as you may lose simply because you don’t know the court procedures as well.
