Managing projects is hard, especially if a manager does not know the important points that need to be considered. This is the reason why companies are hiring educated project managers, those who have graduated from project management training courses. In fact, big companies mostly prefer project managers that have master’s degrees and extensive managerial experiences.

Managers are screened well before they will be a hired. They should know the process of project management and how to implement it effectively. They should have good managerial skills in order to prevent project failures. Since managing projects has a broad scope, problems during the process are hard to avoid. There are many problems managers could experience during project planning and creation, such as problems in finances, project schedule, and human resources. All of these problems could result into project failures. However, project failures can be prevented when best practices in project management are implemented and these problems are controlled and solved early.

Problems in managing projects can be solved earlier if project managers are aware of the warning signs of project management. Through these warning signs, managers could determine that their projects have problems. When problems are identified earlier, solution can be made to prevent these problems from worsening.

Here are the warning signs that projects may be in trouble:

Minor discrepancies in project schedule.

Minor discrepancies in project schedule could result into a big problem if the mangers will not be able to immediately inform their staff about the discrepancies. The impact of this problem is unrecoverable if this will not be managed immediately.

No good relationship between managers and staff members.

If managers perceived that their projects have been completed already, but the truth is that the projects were not done yet. This major problem is possible for managers who do not have proper communication with their staff. Also, if there is no good relationship between managers and staff, a great possibility that this problem may occur because the staff are hesitant to inform their managers about problems on their projects.

Managers and staff rely on overtimes to complete projects on the said deadlines.

Frequent overtimes is a major problem, this signifies that the project schedule has not been correctly followed. In order to meet the deadlines of their projects, managers and staff will tend to rely on overtimes because they were not able to follow the right project schedule.

Teamwork has declined.

Teamwork is vital in every project completion. Managers cannot finish their projects without the help and support of their staff. In fact, their staff are the human resources; they are the ones who primarily do the practical works to complete the projects. Managers will serve as their leaders who will manage the overall process of their projects.

All of these problems can be solved easily if managers have risk management skills. These skills are significant in project management because these offer possible solutions to problems.
