When you say the term “fishing rod”, many people will envision the classic cane pole with a bit of string attached, or maybe the push button rod and reel from their youth. Most professional anglers and serious enthusiasts will think immediately of the spinning rod. Spinning rods are a type of fishing rod that features a downward facing reel seat and line guides. This downward position allows for superior balance and control, as the heavier side will always naturally want to face the ground.
Spinning Rods come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes from giant surf rods to tiny ultralight outfits special made for ice fishing. Many big game anglers swear by their spinning rods, especially trophy catfish fisherman, while ultralight fishing enthusiasts use them almost exclusively. The spinning reel and the spincast reel are the most common reel types to matched up with the spinning rod.
