Rugs are a great way accenting or drawing attention to specific parts of a room, but a lot of people do not have any idea of where to start when it comes to using a rug to decorate the two main rooms of the house. They just buy whatever rug suits their fancy at the moment without taking into consideration the size of the room, the size of the rug, and whether or not the colors and patterns on the rug are going to compliment rather than clash with their current décor.
When it comes to area rugs size matters. You do not want to buy too large of a rug like a 9X12 area rug for a living room that is only 10X12, this rug just would not look right. It would over power the room and draw attention away from the rest of your rooms décor. The same goes for picking out an area rug that is too small. Just imagine how weird a 3X6 area rug would look sitting underneath a coffee table in a large oversized room with tall ceilings. It just would not look right. So when it is vital that when you purchase an area rug that you take into consideration both the size of the room and the size of the rug.
The kitchen is another place where people love to use area and accent rugs. Size is not so much of a factor for rugs when it comes to the kitchen as much as color and design. Most people when they buy a rug for the kitchen are just looking for a little accent rug to place in front of the sink, stove, or refrigerator, but where you can go wrong with these rugs is picking out a color that is just too bold or a pattern like a rooster rug that doesn’t really match you apple curtains and pot holders.
So with a little research online and sitting down and really thinking about the size, style, and color of rug that you want you can save yourself a little time and money by picking out the perfect rug the first time around.
