Using Bathroom Wall Sconces

Posted by in -Home Improvement

For many homeowners, there are few rooms as important as the bathroom. And yet, we tend not to spend a lot of time talking about it, or brainstorming how to improve either it’s appearance or its functionality. This is particularly a challenge for small bathrooms. How exactly do we make them seem a bit bigger and more inviting. There are actually several ways, but one of the best has to do with the interior lighting.

If you have never installed bathroom wall sconces you might consider doing so. There are two good reasons for going with this type of lighting fixture. First, so long as it is specifically designed to function in a room that is filled with moisture, they are ideal for illuminating a small space. But second, if you choose the right ones, you can actually make the room feel larger than it actually is.

The secret is to be sure that the sconces direct their glow both up and down. The downward rays light up the space in which you are taking a bath or brushing your teeth. But the rays that are directed upwards will create apparent walls of light that extend the natural height of the room. Is it a myth? Of course it is. But if it works, who cares?

Another tip to make your tiny bathroom feel a bit larger is to place mirrors on opposing walls. Again, when you do so you are indulging in an optical illusion, but you are effectively creating the appearance of a room that simply goes on and on forever. When used in conjunction with wall lights that extend the height of the room, the mirrors will make it seem wider.

Of course it’s not the end of the world to have a small bathroom. After all, your goal is simply to make it functional,  right? But if you can give it the appearance of spaciousness with a few mirrors and wall sconces, why not?
