Making sure to use a roof ladder whenever you need to do jobs on the roof is one of the safest things you can do. These ladders are made for such tasks and are definitely far safer than ordinary ladders. They come with additional safety features like the hook that can be attached to your roof’s ridge. Secure the ladder properly. This is very crucial. Try and inspect the ground you plan to place the ladder. It shouldn’t be slippery or full of stones. Make sure it is flat and your ladders’ feet can rest firmly on the ground. If you like you can make use of rubber fittings which fit on the foot of your ladder and help secure the ladder.
Also make sure that nobody will be passing underneath the ladder as you work. You can also ask someone to check on you after some minutes.
Climb carefully. Always face the ladder as you climb. Never look down or fidget around as you climb. Make sure that both of your hands firmly grip the ladder and don’t hold anything in your hands while climbing. It is best to use a tool belt to keep your equipment around your waist.
Don’t overstretch. Once you start working, never extend your arms too much to try and reach something. You could easily lose your balance this way. If you need to handle something that isn’t in your reach, climb down and adjust the ladder.
