Touch Screen Computers | Short History

Before touch screen laptops were a hot commodity on the market as it is today, most touch screen computers were large CRT monitors that did not use typical touch screen technology as we know it now. It began with the HP-150 introduced in 1983 as probably the first touch screen computer. Logic would have it that the screen would use a capacitive system which was developed about six years earlier but instead the CRT monitor used infrared technology much to the same degree infrared touch screens are designed today.
Not long after that did multi-touch technology appear in the market which was followed by the ability to detect the z-axis of touch screen coordinates. This allowed the computer to react according to how hard or how much pressure was used in the touch. Multi-point sensing remains on the most remarkable features of touch screen laptops.
