Tips for Using Solar LED Landscape Lights in Your Yard

Posted by in -The Great Outdoors

Do you plan on adding landscaping lights to your yard now that summer is here? There are many types of lights for you to choose from and their features are almost endless. You’ll find lights that turn themselves on and off, ones that come in long ropes of bendable plastic (rope lights that are good for laying under the edges of bushes and shrubs), and even string of various colored spotlights.

But have you considered using solar patio lights for your landscape lighting needs? Not only are solar lights available in just as many styles as traditional and led landscaping lighting, but once you set them up they don’t cost anything to run. Solar landscaping lights are also the easiest to use since you don’t need to worry about connecting them to your home’s power supply because they are powered by a small solar panel. You just place them where you want them, adjust the solar panel so it is in the sunlight for at least a few hours a day and you’re done.

A few tips for using solar landscape lighting are:

When placing your solar lights in your yard to light up small shrubs or plants, be sure that you don’t accidentally place the solar panel that charges them where it will be shadowed by an overhang from your roof or a larger tree nearby. Otherwise your lights won’t get enough charge during the day.

After you’ve installed your lights, take a few minutes once every few months and walk around your yard inspecting your lights. Bring a small washcloth so you can wipe the solar lens clean on the solar panel so that they work efficiently all year around. (Dust will make the solar panel less efficient.) You might want to bring a small screwdriver with you as well so that you can tighten any screws that you might notice have loosened.
