Hiring a professional wedding photographer is a great start. They will work hard to produce high quality products that you can treasure forever. In addition to the professional, have a few friends or family members take some photos as well. This will give you more variety for your money.
Next have either the professional or your photography friends come early. This way they can take pictures of the bride, groom, and wedding party before the wedding. This can either be done together or seperately depending on your feelings of the bride seeing the groom. You can however take all the pictures of the bride with her bridesmaids and the groom with the groomsmen. This will save time after the cermony and make those pictures less rushed.
Try to stay patient while the photographer takes after ceremony pictures. Often this takes awhile and can frustrate everyone involved, which doesn’t help the process any. Have your photographer and your photo friends take pictures during this time.
One last thing you can do is supply disposable cameras on each table at the reception. This will allow others to take pictures of the activity. You are much more likely to catch great and surprising photos this way.
