There are so many interesting things that will keep your family busy and occupied when you visit the province of Alicante in the south-east of Spain. One of them is visiting the sites of interests in Elche which have attracted hordes of tourists every year. There are quite a number of reasons why these monuments and buildings in Elche continue to attract visitors. One reason is the distinguished architectural styles and aesthetic façade.
Saint Mary’s Church or Basilica de Santa Maria is one of the finest structures in Elche, made of various architectural styles from excellent architectures in the earlier centuries. This Gothic church is embellished with lovely ornaments and its tower can provide you a good view of the town’s palm grove. The fabulous and painstakingly decorated façade is created by Nicolas de Busi. Its interior has a very outstanding feature which is truly eye-catching especially to first-time visitors. Upon entering in this beautiful church, you will be greeted by eight stained glass windows which depict the scenes in the Mystery Play, one of Elche’s festivity held every year. Another interesting feature of Basilica de Santa Maira is the large blue-tiled dome.
Puente de Santa Teresa is a fabulous bridge in Gothic Arhcitectural Style. If you want a great view of the beautiful town of Elche you should head to Puente de Santa Teresa. This is also one of the finest structures in Elche, mostly visited by tourist.
