Take the Frugal Route with Kitchen Upgrades

Whenever you make upgrades to your home it always makes sense to consider the cost and the impact associated with that cost. What you really want is to get the biggest bang for your buck because those bucks are hard to come by. One of the most popular rooms of the house is the kitchen so if you spend a good deal of your time there, it might make sense to look at what you can do to improve this space.
When it comes to making upgrades in the kitchen it’s easy to always think brand new when it comes to your appliances, furniture, and your kitchen cabinets. Your cabinets have a great deal to do with your kitchen décor since they take up such a large part of the real estate in your kitchen. If your cabinets are starting to look old and out of style, maybe it’s time to consider changing the way that they look. Instead of immediately jumping into the decision to replace your cabinets there is another viable and more fugal option. Perhaps you have always had white kitchen cabinets but you’ve been intrigued by the rich and luxurious look of wood cabinets. Cabinet refacing can deliver that wood look without having to rip out the old cabinets and replace them with new models. If your existing kitchen cabinets are sound structurally then you can look into refacing over replacing. So what is really involved in a cabinet refacing project? Your cabinet doors and drawer fronts as well as the hardware including the hinges and pulls will be replaced. After you have decided on whether you want a specific wood veneer or a colored laminate, your kitchen contractor will apply the veneer or laminate of your choice to the new doors and drawer fronts as well as to the cabinet boxes. Applying the proper adhesive will allow you to cover up your existing backsplash instead of having to rip it out. Another great feature associated with a metal backsplash is that it is easily cleaned and it is damage resistant. Other backsplash options include ceramic tile, glass tile, natural stone, marble, granite, mirror, and cork. Some of these options may best be left to an experienced kitchen contractor but due to the fact that the backsplash area tends to be small, the material costs should be minimal. Obviously if you do the job yourself the costs will be much more reasonable but, even if you hire a professional, the costs shouldn’t be exorbitant due to the small amount of square footage involved.
Making high impact upgrades to your favorite room of the house shouldn’t leave you in the poor house. Consider the frugal options such as cabinet refacing and changing your backsplash. You’ll be amazed at the results and you’ll still have money left for that new double oven you’ve had your eyes on.
