Choosing which wedding ring or engagement ring to buy has always been one of the most difficult choices a person is likely to make. You can’t just go out and purchase something on a whim, because you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life. So what do you do? Well, if you’re like most people, you agonize over the decision, and second guess yourself until you don’t even know what you want anymore.
The decision has gotten even more complicated in recent years, especially after the recession hit. Nobody has the kind of money necessary to get expensive rings anymore – and even if you do, you’re probably better off just being frugal and sticking most of it in a savings account or in bonds, to save for your future with your loved ones. As far as rings, the easiest choice was always to just get the largest diamond that you could afford – a no brainer. Nowadays, however, with all the negative publicity surrounding “conflict diamonds” and the ethics of the diamond industry, we suggest avoiding diamonds entirely.
Instead, consider looking at some more exotic stones. There are a lot of options out there – emeralds, rubies, sapphires and amethysts are some of the more striking ones. There are very few things as attractive as a brushed platinum band studded with amethysts.
Also, depending on how much money you think you can afford, you can always scale upward or downward on the kind of metal that you want your ring to be crafted with. For example, yellow gold rings will always be more expensive than the sterling silver ring – and both can look equally good, when paired with the right kind of gemstone. The decision, then, may be complicated – there is certainly a lot of choice. But look on the bright side – the choice is yours. You can get whatever kind of ring you want, and the options out there are spectacular. Go with your heart, we always say.
