Steam Shower Installation: How to Create a Spa in Your own Home
Posted by GuestPoster in -Home Improvement
Everybody loves to have steam baths especially at the end of the day when your muscles feel sore. Aside from the fact they have medical and therapeutic effects, steam baths also make bathing much more relaxing. The problem though is that it is usually very expensive to go to the spa. What you can do is to create one in your own home. It does take some funding but you will find it is cheaper in the long run.
Start by preparing the room for the steam and moisture. A room that has no proper protection from moisture is waiting for damage to happen. The basic things that you have to consider in building your steam unit include:
1.) Make sure the steam cannot escape from the room.
2.) The condensed water should be collected without hitting the bathers.
3.) Proper water drainage.
All these considerations boil down to the fact that the steam room must be properly insulated and sealed. The basic architectural requirement for a steam bath is that the ceiling must be sloped. A flat ceiling will collect moisture that will drip all over the place. This can be very irritating especially if it hits the eyes.
Another thing to consider, in as far as architecture is concerned is the drainage. Expect water to drip from the steam and moisture. As with any bathroom, proper drainage is a must.
The walls and ceiling of the steam bathroom must be made of impervious materials. These materials can include ceramic glass or tile. Silicone must be placed in all the connections and joints to prevent the moisture from escaping.
Once you have figured out how to go about the underlying structure, you should then think about the height of the ceilings. It is a standard requirement for a steam shower ceiling to stay within eight feet. As mentioned earlier, it should also be slanted or sloped at about two inches per foot.
Other things to consider include the type of door to use, other accessories you need, and the type of steam generator to buy. As far as a steam generator installation is concerned, you should get advice from a plumber or electrician. This is for the safety of the installation.
