Recognizing And Overcoming Social Phobia
Posted by GuestPoster in Personal Development
Social phobia or social anxiety is a disorder that millions of people are forced to struggle with every day. This is a form of fear, embarrassment or humiliation that affects an individual when they are meeting people or when they are in public. The person suffering from this disorder will often feel that they are being scrutinized, watched or judged and that is why they are very uncomfortable and will often try as much as they can to avoid being in public places or situations where they have to meet people. This fear is commonly manifested in the fear of public speaking which can also be a fear on its own.
How do you know you have social phobia?
Just like claustrophobia, public speaking, driving and agoraphobia symptoms, the symptoms of the fear of speaking in public depend on individuals, the severity of the problem and how they handle it. Some of the common symptoms of this disorder are blushing, chocking, feeling of being watched or scrutinized, feeling embarrassed for who you are, tunnel vision, lack of concentration, hearing and speech impairment, trembling, sweating, hyperventilation and feeling useless or demeaned. There are different causes of this fear and finding the root cause of the problem is the key to overcoming it.
Ways of overcoming shyness and social phobia
Find the cause of your problem to effectively overcome it. The common causes of this problem are stress, low self-esteem, being too careful in nature, poor self-confidence and depression. If you can find the root of the problem then you will be able to overcome this disorder without having to consult a therapist at all. I should however advice you not to resort to medications such as ant-depressants and ant-anxiety medications because these will only make the condition worse as they hide the symptoms rather than treat the actual problem.
