These two sports have very much in common. For example, both powerlifting and bodybuilding are strength sports in nature and require heavy weight training. Key difference is this: In powerlifting the goal is to lift the heaviest weight possible in three disciplines: bench press, squat and deadlift. While lifting heavy weight is important in bodybuilding the focus is turned more to stimulating growth of the muscles, in other words to muscle building.

Therefore, powerlifters are worried less about how they look and more about how much they can lift in oppose to bodybuilders.
