Pergolas Are Just One Way To Cover A Patio

In your desire to create an appealing outdoor patio space to enjoy with your friends and family, you will need to have some type of patio covering in order to have more usable space. In addition to this, the type of cover structure that you choose should meet the needs you have. In other words, some people would like to have a more closed-roof type of covered patio – like a gazebo or ranch house style, extended roof. Other people would prefer a more open structure, like a pergola.
Pergolas are nothing more than (usually) a four post and beam structure with a lattice-like, criss-cross style ‘roof’. The term roof can only be used loosely here because while it does create a certain aesthetic appeal, it is mainly used as a support structure/framework for growing plants and vines. This greenery creates more ambiance, shade and provides a cooling effect on those hot summer days. The various style of patio covers can range from these simple pergola styles to much more elaborate architectural elements.
