Lose Fat By Adding Weight

If you want to lose body fat, one of the best things you can do is to increase the amount of lean muscle mass you have on your body.  Muscle is active body tissue that requires energy to sustain itself, even when at rest.  Fat, on the other hand, is inactive body tissue that takes no energy to maintain.  It is obvious then, that the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be.  And the higher your metabolism is, the more fat you’re going to burn, making you leaner, healthier and probably less frustrated with your body.

The question is, what is the best way to add muscle to your body.  The answer is, weight training.  While many people know this, the mistake they make is thinking that simply going and moving a few weights around is ‘weight lifting’.  While it technically is correct, to get the benefit of your body adding muscle mass, you’re going to need to move heavy weights.  Make an effort.  What ever weight it takes to make you make an effort is a good weight.  You should not be able to do more than 12 to 15 reps of a weight.  Really.  If you simply stop at that point but could go on, the weight is too light.  Don’t cheat yourself.  Pick the right weight.  With something like the Powerblock Dumbells, it is very easy to adjust the weight to the proper amount for almost anyone.
