LEDs and their Role in Your Samsung TV

You might have heard the chatter about these TVs when they were new and hit the market. You might have even bought one, or wanted to and never got around to buying one. No problem, this article is here to explain why LED TVs are worth the money, and then some more. I promise I’ll try to be brief and to the point so that you can get back to deciding between those two models you’ve been looking at.
LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are in everything that has an integrated circuit. Your microwave oven, your alarm clock, the little lamp on your keyboard, and yes, top of the line Samsung TV sets too. The case a bit different with these TVs though, as LEDs are not used to show if the unit is switched on or not. They’re there to replace the backlight tubes that have been in flat screen TFT TVs for years.
If you’re a bit tech savvy, you might know that the pixels of a TFT panel either allow backlight to pass through, or they block it to a certain degree, putting the picture together bit by bit. When the backlight is not of a clean spectrum, the curves that regulate each pixels have to be more complicated than they necessarily have to be when the spectrum of the backlight indeed is close to the theoretical white ‘color’.
Complicated? I think not; let’s put it this way: the colors that are shown on the screen are results of the backlight passing through each sub-pixel or not. When black, or any of the pure colors are show, it’s a simple story. When a shade of blue needs to be put on the screen, it’s a different story altogether, a certain amount of backlight need to be let through, and no more. If the white of the tube behind the panel is not clean, no matter how hard each pixel tries to hit the sweet spot, fails. That’s where LEDs come into play.
This is the most important benefit of LEDs; through better color representation they allow the TV in question to show a more life-like picture, and that’s not all for there is power consumption, weight, life-expectancy and a whole lot of variables in which this technology beats the old one by leaps and bounds. It makes no sense to not buy a Samsung LED TV when you factor in all the variables.
