Is There Anything That Causes Early Menopause?

Posted by in Health & Fitness

Unfortunately, some things can cause menopause to happen early. For instance, a smoker more commonly enters menopause sooner than a non-smoker by one to two years. Some reports show that early menopause can be brought on by not having children. Early menopause most likely occurs if you were treated with chemotherapy or pelvic radiation for cancer as a child. Another reason for early menopause is if you had a hysterectomy. Menopause is not triggered if the ovaries are left to produce eggs; however the removal of your uterus stops menstrual bleeding.

To get an idea of when menopause will begin, look back at your family’s history. The chances of entering menopause around the same time your mother did are high, as well as the symptoms could be similar, so asking you mother about her experience can give you and idea of what’s to come. What makes these things lead to early menopause? No one is absolutely sure yet.
