How To Use Your Credit Cards Less

Posted by in Personal Finances

My mom gave me a rule of thumb with my credit cards unfortunately did not adhere to and had to consolidate my credit card bills to get myself out of debt.  The rule is to not use your credit card for anything that you will not still have when it is time to pay the bill.  For example, using a credit card for lunch, cigarettes, gas, snacks, and all of the other impulsive and wasteful purchases is not a good idea.  There is no solid reason why this works for me now, but it does force me to think about my purchase before swiping my card for it.  Now that I am out of credit card debt, I have much more control over my credit card spending by following this simple rule of thumb.  I am now confident that my credit card spending will not get out of control.
