How to Save the Most Money When Buying Kitchen Units

This may not be the most well timed article, this being almost November, and the fact that most people give up on renovations during the winter. Hopefully you can remember the following lesson until your kitchen renovation happens.
With all of the attention people are giving to the environment these days, it’s a wonder that more people don’t reuse old cabinetry more often. Most times, if the home owner wishes to recycle the materials, they will take extra time to make sure it is still in good condition after they remove it from their home.
Getting someone to donate you cabinetry is a great way to go, but it is not always possible so here are a few tricks you can do to make sure you get good quality, but cheap kitchen units:
- If you know of someone who is going to be doing a kitchen remodel, ask to see their old cabinets, and if you like the style, ask them if you can have them when they come out. Offering to help with the removal will likely get the for you for free, or very cheap.
- Sometimes, if you are really lucky, the local thrift stores in your area may have second hand cabinetry that is in good shape, this is a little rare, but the prices are hard to beat.
- A lot of people do not realize that Habitat for Humanity has “ReStores,” which are stores that sell second hand building materials for cheap. All of the items are checked over and will be in good condition, so you won’t have to worry about quality. Plus any of the money you spend there goes towards helping get a safe and affordable home for a family in need.
- Sometimes you might get lucky and can buy last years stock from a home improvement store for a fraction of the cost they would normally retail for. The best times to find deals like this would be right around the time that the new cabinetry arrives in store. Ask around the stores in your area to find out when this happens.
- Going to the manufacturers stores can also be a great way to get a good deal on some cheap kitchen units. Again call around and ask when their new stock will be in, or if they are holding any auctions, or sales soon.
If you follow just some of the advice from above, you can get your kitchen remodel done a lot cheaper then you might think. The cabinets are generally the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel, so saving the most money on them will save you the most in the long run.
