How to Evaluate Driveway Paving Contractors

The industry that receives the highest number of customer complaints is the home improvement industry. This is primarily because homeowners have very little knowledge of what it takes to properly install driveways and other home improvement projects, and unscrupulous contractors have no motivation to properly disclose all the information on homeowner would need to make a proper decision. Thus, this article will give you three questions you’ll need to ask when hiring driveway paving contractors or any contractor to do work on your home.
First, are they licensed and insured to work in your area? If they are not licensed, you may have no protections in case of some sort of conflict or problem with the work. If they are not insured, and an accident or injury occurs while they are working on your job, you may actually be held liable in certain circumstances. Thus, it’s important both for the quality of the work and for your own protection to make sure the contractor has filed all the proper paper work. Ask for further identification and make the calls as necessary to confirm – don’t just take their word for it!
Do they have experience working with the material that you’ve selected for your project? For instance, if they are laying patio slabs, they better know how best to lay the material to create the proper heights, grades, and patterns, otherwise you will have a very expensive repair job coming your way.
Finally, ask them who exactly will be working at your house. Many contractors will just drop off random workers to do the work, so neither you nor the contractor will actually know what the final project will turn out to be. Make sure that the contractor himself, or at the very least one of his trusted lieutenants, will be helping out or at least supervising.
