When it comes to household mold, it is important to know there are different types; some being harmful, and others not so much. For example, the greenish mold that could be found on outdated food, although I would not recommend eating, is generally not harmful to your health.
But, there is another type of mildew, called black mold, that is extremely harmful if your exposure to it is prolonged. This type of mold can form as a result of overly damp and moist environments, usually around bathrooms or basements. A leaky water source is often the cause, and the mold is a dark green or black in color.
Exposure to this type of mold can cause hay fever type allergic reactions, a weakened immune system, and chronic illness, fatigue or sinus infections. Very long ,extreme exposures may result in impotence and even death. Which is why, even though sometimes sensationalized by the media, mold removal is important to undertake if black mold has been found in your home.
There are many mold removal companies which will both inspect and remove mold problems in one’s home. Price ranges tend to be in the thousands of dollars, depending on the severity of mold growth and the causation of moisture. Although expensive, these specialized organizations are essential, and general home inspectors will not detect mold problems effectively.
A mold detection professional has special infrared vision tools which detect variances in heat around your home. This is an excellent way to find potential wet areas in between walls, ceilings and floors. After detection, they can safely remove your mold problem and ensure your family remains in good health.
