Origins of High Density Foam
The high quality memory foam we see today was not always held to such high standards. The original high density foam cells had shorter life spans, and would begin to crack and wear out quite easily.
Although this material originated within the halls of NASA in the 1970′s, it wasn’t until the 1990′s that companies like Tempur-pedic manufactured their own version of the high density product. The Tempur-pedic product was temperature-activated and built to last. It was expensive though, and when their success was noted, competitors flooded the market with cheaper versions of their ‘memory foam.’
Today it is hard to avoid the noise about this miracle material, and as a result, more and more people are giving it a try. Prices are in range with traditional spring mattresses of good quality, as well.
