Healthy Fasting

I am on the second day of a water fast. My intent is not anything to complicated. I think it is good to fast every once in awhile. It does my mind, body and soul some good to undertake what can be a challenging experience. I am not using any of those crazy cleanse products or trying to lose weight. Both of those things really have little to do with fasting. The whole notion that you need some crap to clean you out while you fast or that this is a great lose weight quick scheme is just another version of someone selling snake oil. Those products and books must sell pretty well because there seems to be a lot of products and programs out there.

If you are curious about learning about fasting don’t even bother looking into the weight loss and cleanse pitch stuff. It is full of bad ideas and misinformation. There are some reputable books and even a few decent website that can tell you how to fast and what you might expect when you do so.Seek those out instead.

Anyway sorry about the rant. That wasn’t why I started writing this post. My water fasting is where I started. So I do not have any idea how long I will carry on with this fast. I usually only go for a single day but I have gone longer from time to time. I may even break my fast today if that seems to be the right thing to do. I have been having headaches on and off today, which is certainly due to my body dealing with being pushed to do some metabolic things a little differently. But besides that it is going quite nicely.

I have not really been all that tempted to eat today. The tough thing is the holiday today. I am home alone so it is not like I will be at a party where everyone is eating and there is food everywhere. But it is a nice day and I know a bunch of my neighbors will be grilling. It will be interesting to see what all those smells that waft through my open windows will do to my resolve to not eat today. I might even have to play some mental games. Maybe I can promise myself a trip to the barbecue place down the street later in the week if I can refrain from eating today.

If I do make it through today and then see what I want to do tomorrow when I wake up in the morning. Three day of fasting is usually pretty rough for me to try to get through.
