Gutter Cleaning Is Easier With Gutter Guards

Posted by in -Home Improvement

Installing a gutter guard product in your guttering makes gutter cleaning a little bit easier. Gutter guards are a piece of mesh or grille placed over your rain gutters, with the purpose of catching the dead leaves and other organic debris which would other wise end up in the gutter, clogging the water flow in it. Most types of gutter guard are easy to install and tend to remain in place even through strong winds. Depending on the size of the holes in the guards, they will pick up anything from leaves to small seeds, really helping you rain gutters remain clean.

However, even gutter guards will be clogged up at some point, making it necessary to clean those instead of you gutters. The smaller the holes in the guards, the smaller things will be caught in them – but the more often you may have to clean them as well. If you did not clean them, you might discover that all the organic material they have caught, will build up to a slimy, mucky barrier, which will simply lead the water over the edge of the guttering instead. This is not desirable at all. You should definitely clean your gutter guards before this happens.

So what good is a gutter guard if you still have to get up there and clean them? Are they not supposed to be maintenance-free? Yes, some gutter guards are claimed to be “no-clean” products, but you should never believe such hyperbole. What they will do for you, is make it easier for you to remove what would otherwise have ended up in the gutter – and worse yet, in the downspout or as far as the sewer! Cleaning a downspout which has been completely blocked by leaves and twigs is a much more annoying job than cleaning gutters – and don’t even get me started on cleaning sewers! Roof gutter cleaning can definitely be made easier with gutter guards – with realistic expectations.
