If you have children you will probably understand the need for giving them a comfortable and inviting room all to themselves. Studies have shown that children who have their own little space where they feel safe and comfortable grow into more secure adults, and are also more likely to do well in school. Here are some easy ideas for furnishing a nice cozy room for the kids without spending a fortune.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to freshen up an existing room is to repaint it and replace fixtures like lampshades and curtains. All of these things you can easily do yourself in little more than a few hours, and the results can be great. Let your kids help you choose the colors they want the room painted in, or maybe let them help you paint a feature wall in a color they want. If choosing new curtains, it is often possible to obtain fabric printed with storybook characters, animals, or some other design that your child is fond of.

To make the room nice and cozy it is important to make it both visually, and physically warm. This could mean a cute bedside lamp to cast a warm glow, and a small heater if you live in a cold climate. If you have ducted central heating this will be less of an issue, but in many houses your child could benefit from a compact wall heater to drive off the chill.

Furnishing kids rooms is not difficult, the most important thing being that your child is allowed to take some ownership over the process. As far as possible in let them choose furniture, bedding, and other items, to make them feel that they are in charge of this space. By investing this energy into giving your child their own comfortable room you might find that they are more happy and helpful, and will be more likely to adhere to bedtimes and other household rules.
