Using a Foam Sheet
Foam sheets come in a multitude of thicknesses, colors, and sizes for different applications.
Foam with closed cells such as polyethylene, polystyrene, and minicel foam are springy, durable materials used for absorbing shocks and vibrations. This is an astute choice for expensive camera gear or scientific equipment.
To further categorize the three types above, polystyrene is better known as Styrofoam and is used for toy packaging, cake boxes, arts & crafts, and even insulation. It is available in different densities for different applications. Polyethylene is commonly seen in lifeguard flotation devices, or other objects requiring buoyancy in the water, including foam surfboards and life rings. Minicel consists or cells chemically cross-linked, and is so fine it is suitable for use in protecting the most delicate items. This thick foam is smooth to the touch.
