Finding The Ideal Bathroom Flooring Options

Installing the right bathroom flooring options can be tricky. In the first place many bathrooms, most bathrooms in fact, are small and have strangely shaped floors. This area will also see a great deal of water on the floor, which can damage not only the floor itself, but the supporting boards underneath and getting these boards wet will lead to both wood rot and mold, both of which are extremely expensive to clean up. This means that whatever bathroom flooring options you are going to install needs to be both non slip and water proof, along with making your bathroom look great.

The old stand by and most commonly used option in finishing your bathroom floor is of course ceramic. Ceramic floor tiles are popular especially in homes with several people and children living there because ceramic needs very little care, does not stain. Ceramic does get dirty easily, is slippery and tends to cold onto cold. Other stones, like marble, granite or travertine will last a great deal longer than ceramic however. Your floor will be totally unique as well because all of the stone have different patterns. This stone is more expensive however and needs to be installed by a professional because if it is not done correctly it will leak. While wood can be used it should be a wood that is waterproof, like teak or iroko and also needs to installed correctly by a professional and sealed to prevent leaks at the seams. There are sealers that you can buy that will seal the floor very well.

Of course there are several other options, like PVC and even glass block floors, both of which are seen quite often in places like stores, malls, public buildings and other locations. You have to achieve a balance between what is safe, which styles look the best on your floor and in your bathroom and most importantly which you can afford.
