Domestic Uses of Wedge Pillows

While traditionally the main users of wedge pillows have been people suffering from sleeping problems because of particular conditions or ailments, they are becoming more common for perfectly healthy people to use too.

If we look at the orthopedic uses first, they fall into three main categories: people suffering from back or neck aches, people suffering breathing problems and those with acid reflux problems. This pillow helps the first group by relieving spinal pressures. Some of the pillows will have special neck or head rests built in to the main pillow slope, which gives added protection for those areas. The angle of the slope in these pillows will vary so make sure to test a few out first so that you find one that suits you.

Those with breathing problems that may cause snoring may benefit from these pillows in that the air passages are kept clearer; therefore the likelihood of snoring disrupting night’s sleeps is reduced. People who have sleep apnea will need to consult with a doctor but their condition may be eased too. Finally those with GERDS may find that the stomach acid problem they suffer may be reduced by raising the upper body using a wedge pillow.

How else can these cushions be used in the home for other things? Well nowadays the best ones are made from memory foam and so they are really comfortable. People like to use them instead of the normal head pillows for propping themselves up in bed for a variety of reasons – to watch a movies, to read a few pages of a book or magazine before sleep, to take a sip of coffee or orange juice in the morning, to work on their laptop, or to take medicine (in the case of a long-term bed-ridden patient.)

Please note that buying a special cover or two for your wedge pillow will help to keep it in tip-top condition.
