Curved Walk In Shower Units And Other Designs For Handicapped Individuals

When custom designing the rooms in your home, you will find many products created specifically for handicapped persons. An individual with a permanent or temporary physical disability may need to use a wheelchair or crutches when moving around the house. Such circumstances make it difficult for the individual to bathe as most bathrooms do not easily permit movement of a wheelchair or crutches. To solve this problem, you may consider doorless walk in shower designs as they can be custom made into extra wide entryways. Since one side of the stall remains open at all times, the shower heads are placed at angles where the water will fall or splash inside the bathing area.

The curved walk in shower is another design available in this type of stall. Unlike the triangular design which has 2-3 flat walls, this design is a complete circular shaped stall. It is ideal for rooms with inadequate floor space as they fit well in any corner of the room. Flat triangular wall corner stalls are also good space savers in small rooms. In general, these units use Plexiglas which can be attached to the bathroom wall. The transparent material permits the color of the bathroom tiles, wallpaper or paint to be seen.

However, if you’re looking for something which provides more entrance space, a block walk in shower should be opted over corner stalls. This design has a square shape and takes up more floor space than most units. Its main advantage, however, is the easy mobility of a wheelchair to enter and exit. This design can be found with fiberglass walls or clear walls. The former are available in many textures and colors which complement the current bathroom design. Another way of making things easier for a handicapped individual is to attach a spray to one of the shower heads which can be held in one’s hand. This allows the person to control the water and its direction while sitting down.
