Control Dog Itching Naturally

Dog itching is such a frustrating problem, trying to figure out what on earth could be causing all that itching. You know it’s not fleas or mange. The next thing you think of is allergies. But before looking at dog allergies, you may want to look at improper nutrition being the cause. Without the right nutrients and enzymes, your dog’s body cannot process food as well and has a hyper-sensitive immune system. The best thing for your dog is to improve their diet.

What your dog needs is an all-natural diet, and there are several options: make your own homemade dog food, purchase a hypoallergenic, organic, or holistic dog food, or purchase a premium kibble and add your own fresh ingredients.

Whichever solution you choose, your dog will definitely benefit from it. And depending on which solution you choose, it may take more effort and time on your part, but in no time you’ll be quickly fixing healthy, nutritious food for your dog. And you will probably start seeing a difference in your dog itching in 2 to 4 weeks time.

For providing homemade dog food or adding human food to your dog’s kibble, you can pretty much add whatever you like with a few exceptions.

  1. There are a handful of ingredients you should NOT feed a dog – chocolate, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, onions. Others should only be fed in moderation. (look for a full list online)
  2. If you decide to feed raw meat, never feed raw pork or raw fish. Organ meat should only be given once or twice a week.
  3. Vegetables need to be cooked or processed in a blender/food processor. Dogs don’t have long enough intestines to break down whole raw vegetables.
  4. Grains need to be cooked first. Oatmeal, barley, and rice are excellent grains to add. Only add grains if you are making homemade dog food; kibble already has enough grains in it.

If purchasing a dog food, always look at the ingredients label before buying. Make sure there is meat as the first ingredient, or at least the second. Also look for foods that have little to no by-products, such as corn gluten and chicken by-product meal. These have fewer nutrients for your dog. Finally, try to stay away from any artificial flavorings, preservatives, and colorings.

Dogs itching constantly are more than just an annoyance, the itching can lead to secondary infections if the skin is damaged. To put a stop to all the itching, you must first be sure they are getting what they need from their dog food to stay healthy with a strong immune system. Try feeding a more nutritious dog food and watch the itching and scratching stop.
