Comparison of Available Garage Door Openers

When was the last time that you ended up soaking wet, because the garage door was closed when you got home and it was raining? Ever felt that maybe it was time to replace the old opener with a newer model? You may want to investigate your options before leaping into that new purchase. There are several different models to choose from.

Garage door openers come with different options. There are the simple ones that will open the door at the push of a button. These usually involve you going into the garage and pressing a button or pulling a switch. There are instances where the button is outside the garage, but considering it is a simple switch, that can be a hazard as far as home security goes. They are the lower end of the spectrum of openers. A little fancier are the openers with the keypads on the outside. These require the home owner to get out of their car and press the four or five digit access code, but they are a little more secure. Then there are the ones with remote control access. These usually come with one or two remotes that the home owner can open or close the garage door at the press of a button from the comfort and security of the car. The downside is like every remote control, these too can get lost. Newer openers have the added feature of cell phone access. Simply have your cell phone send a command to the door opener to open.

Speed and noise should also be considered. Lower horsepower motors can mean that the door will take longer to open. If you are in a hurry to open and close the garage door, this can become an annoyance. Therefore you may want to consider a higher horsepower motor. However, remember how noisy they can be.

Door openers can sound like a can opener on steroids, so be careful. Coming home late at night, it may be possible to wake not only the people in your house, but possibly the neighborhood, so look into different quiet technologies.
