Common Exercise And Fitness Pitfalls At Over 40

Many people aged 40 and over do usually believe that the curtain has closed on their exercise and fitness plans, and instead get contented with their physical statuses, which are often unhealthy and unfit. The minority that understand the significance of exercising at this age to regain healthy and youthful bodies often make these common mistakes that hinder their quest to achieve the results they need.

1. Impatience – this is by far the most common mistake with most people aged 40 and over as far as exercising is concerned. The exercises for over 40 are usually different from those of people aged 20 in that they are less intensive and the bodies will even respond more slowly. Most people start exercising and expect to see results instantly but this is not going to happen. In the long run, they give up and assume that exercises at such an age never work.

2. Failing to warm up – this is another big problem that most people at any age encounter. One cannot just walk to the gym and start lifting weights without preparing the muscles and expect exemplary results. It is important to do a 5 minute warm up of simple exercises like aerobic and cardiovascular exercises then another 20 to 40 minutes of the actual exercises to get fit over 40.

3. Failing to challenge the muscles – the muscles actually grow because you challenge them with more intense workouts and heavier weights. To progress, you have to progressively increase your workout intensity and weights you lift as the muscles grow. Doing the same workouts day after day will make them seem simpler with time but the muscles will stagnate at that point as you fail to exert more pressure.

Lastly, there is the point of commitment. Although you have many commitments at the age of 40, your body and health should be on top of your list. Commit time to exercising at least 30 minutes a day for three days a week to get fit.
