Remember to take good care of the glass doors at all times. For example, while taking the doors out might seem like the easiest way to clean them, doing so may lead to scratches or even breakage. Instead, follow a few simple steps that can be used on both custom fireplace glass doors and prefabricated fireplace glass doors. First, open the doors and turn off the gas if cleaning a gas fireplace. Next, apply some sort of cleaning solution to a dry, clean cloth and rub each door carefully. A creamy solution works best. When rubbing the doors, be sure to clean starting at the top and moving to the bottom. Dip another cloth in clean water and rinse the door thoroughly, rinsing the cloth as often as needed. Although the cleaning solution should remove most soot and dirt after one application, two might be needed if some spots remain.
Baked on soot is another problem many homeowners face when cleaning fireplace glass doors. Unfortunately, baked on soot requires more effort to clean. Before starting, carefully use a razor blade to remove soot without scratching the glass. The easiest way to do this is to hold the razor at an angle so that it can take of the soot while causing minimal damage. Once the soot has been scraped off, clean the doors as you normally would.
