Choosing The Right Wall Lamp

Light is an essential element in our everyday lives, and good lighting defines the atmosphere of your indoor or outdoor environment. It enhances the overall mood and feel of a room or space and helps you perform your tasks better while providing you with safety and a sense of comfort.
Lighting fixtures not only provide necessary illumination; they are also great accessories that complement your interior design. And there is no end to the variety of styles, colors, shapes and sizes available, from freestanding floor lamps to hanging ceiling fixtures. Wall lamps are wonderful addition to your other lighting fixtures where there is a need for a bit of emphasis in a particular spot, or when the existing illumination is not enough in your living room, hallway, bedroom, dining room, etc.
A wall lamp is a wall-mounted lighting fixture which provides a suitable amount of ambient, task or accent lighting to an environment. There are different styles that have evolved through the years ranging from simple classic to the more edgy designs that go well with any existing lighting fixtures and decorating theme. A pair of traditional corner sconces on each side of your front door provides a welcoming feel while a rustic plug-in wall sconce adds a country touch to a foyer or entryway. Aside from an overhead light, the addition of a pair or several uplight wall sconces supplements illumination in your hallway.
Ambient lighting creates general illumination in your living room, bedroom, kitchen or dining room. Task lighting provides illumination to a specific area such as a kitchen bar, sink or stove top. Brighten dark corner spaces or below wall cabinets with under cabinet lighting. A swing-arm wall lamp may be installed to complement ceiling lights and make it is easy to direct light where you need it by adjusting the arm to bring brightness to your desk or reading chair.
A pair of wall washer sconces makes beautiful accents above a fireplace mantle. For even lighting in a bathroom, you can add a pair of downward light sconces on both sides or above the mirror for shaving or applying make-up. A picture or display wall lamp highlights wall decor pieces and illuminate display shelves.
Also remember that, before adding wall lights, take into account the wall color in the room – it affects the level of light in the environment. If you want to achieve a particular brightness or softness of light at any given time, a dimmer switch is helpful, allowing you to adjust the mood of your lighting, which I find especially important in the living room, bedroom and nursery.
