Third person objective
If you write in third person objective, you’ll be communicating everything to the reader only by showing how the main character acts and reacts. She snapped her head up quickly. She glanced at her watch and looked around.”

Past or present
Past tense is the usual tense for writing a story. “Teresa was bored” is written in the past tense. “Teresa is bored” is the present tense version. Sometimes present tense is preferred because it adds to a sense of immediacy. It’s a little harder to write in present tense, and some readers don’t like it. You might want to learn how to write in present tense as a writing exercise, but it’s not necessary for creating reader engagement or a sense of immediacy.
