Best Dog Names

The major legwork is done: you have chosen the right dog breed for you and your family, found a breeder or a rescue, met with and selected a good individual puppy match, and now, finally, your sweet new dog is on the way home.  Only one things remains between you and greeting your new pup at the door: a name!  Naming your dog can be a major conundrum. Even the categories of dog names can seem overwhelmingly large: there are human names like Sarah or Dave, traditional dog names like Spot or Rover, descriptive names like Amber or Goldie, sentimental names like Sweetie or Lady, and finally, eccentric names like Panda or Wild Man.

Starting with the category of names that appeals to you can be a good start to realizing the perfect name for your new pup.  Try to go through each and find the one that really warms your heart and makes the most sense to you.  Secondly, start the brainstorming process.  Make a list, ask friends, and type in the category to your favorite online search engine.  Begin narrowing down the list to two or three names at least a few days before your pup arrives. In the last few days, try these names out.  Though it may seem silly, imagine your dog is there and say the name out loud to yourself.  Test how it feels and, keeping the image of your puppy and his or her personality in mind, make sure that the name really fits.

Another great source of generating a wide variety of dog names is your local Seattle dog boarding facility.  Most dog boarders see a great number of pups come through their facilities, and can be the perfect people to ask for suggestions or bounce some ideas off of.

And finally, remember not to agonize too much.  Ultimately, whatever you name your new little puppy, you are going to love her or him so much!
