Be Slow To Remove A Character Timber Sash Window

Many homeowners are tempted to install uPVC windows when the timber sash windows in their home come to a stage where they have to be replaced. They are under the impression the uPVC windows will give them a trouble free life.
However a newly manufactured sash timber window can be every bit as energy efficient as a uPVC window and will look a lot better also. A sash wooden window with a brass window sash lock and other attractive hardware will always look well in a home.
When it comes to having windows with character in your home, there is nothing to compare with windows made from wood. Wood is a natural material, which improves with age even if it does need to be maintained in order to keep it weatherproof. uPVC windows may be maintenance free, but they will never look as well, especially in an older house, as timber windows.
If you have windows made from PVC or aluminium in your house and they develop a problem, you will have little option but to call in a window professional and follow their advice, no matter how expensive that advice is. However with timber windows, there is more of a chance that a local carpenter or handyman will be able to help you out by replacing damaged parts of the window.
Some homeowners are under the impression that by installing timber windows you are depleting the timber resources on the planet. However the opposite is true if you purchase your wooden widows from manufacturers who source their timber from managed forests. More trees are planted in these forests in order to replace harvested timber and this actually helps improve these forests.
So when it comes to replacing your sash windows, do not be persuaded too easily by claims from uPVC window manufacturers as to the quality of their products. Their windows may well be very efficient, durable and long lasting, but will they look as well as timber windows in your character home?
