Home remedies for acne scars are actually surprisingly effective. Many of the over-the-counter products that you will find for mild scarring are in fact largely composed of natural ingredients and so offer little further potency compared to straight home remedy treatments.
About Acne Scars
Acne is a condition which affects 85% of the population to some degree as we pass through the teenage years. For some though, the residue scarring lasts long into adulthood. An acne scar forms just like any other type of scar does. The dark tissue which appears is the body’s natural healing process, creating collagen fibers and rebuilding blood vessels at the damage site. These scars come in different shapes and sizes and are often named after the shapes they create such as; ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars–all of which are indentations in the skin. Raised scars are lumps of fleshy tissue and are known as keloids.
Home Remedies For Acne Scars
Lemon juice for acne scars. This is the king of remedies for treating dark spots seeing as its citric acid acts as a natural bleach. Bath the scar in lemon juice daily for several weeks and you will begin to see it fade. Vinegar also contains the same acids and therefore can have the same effect.
Honey for acne scars. Honey has been used as a natural remedy for thousands of years. It contains anti microbes which help kill bacteria and enzymes which help promote new tissue growth. It can be applied as a face mask. Mix with oatmeal–which acts as an exfoliate–to decrease the stickiness. (Go to tanning lotion for more information on the uses of honey in beauty).
Aloe Vera for acne scars. A natural soother, this plant originates from the Canary Islands and North Africa. Crush up the leaves and apply the natural gel to the scars. It will calm the swelling and cleanse the pores.
Ice cubes for acne scars. For new scarring, apply ice cubes. The intense cold will help reduce blood flow to the area, reducing redness and swelling.
Home Remedies For Acne Scars, Which Are Severe?
No. Unfortunately, these treatments are best used on mild to moderate scarring. Consult a dermatologist about clinical treatments for more severe scarring.
