If you’re planning on adding outdoor lighting to your home you should be creative so your homes exterior lighting isn’t the same as everyone else’s on the block. Because of the many types that are available you will be able to find lights that not only match your homes decor, but also show off your creative side. If you spend a little time, you can add accents to each light that you buy, which will make them unique and add to your homes ambiance.

Some outdoor lighting ideas that you may not have considered trying before:

  • If you have some outdoor string lights leftover from last year in your garage, use them by wrapping them around your porches columns or posts. But don’t leave it at that. Place plastic flowers, leaves, and vines around the columns as well so that the wires are hidden and it looks like you have light flowers at night. Because there are so many varieties of flowers available you should be able to find many that will match your home.
  • If you just want to add some pathway lights around your home so your guests won’t trip after dark during a party, consider making your own. The easiest way to do this is to use a half gallon or gallon bucket. Pokes holes in the sides in any design you like, paint it, place a few inches of sand in the bottom, and place either a candle or a small battery operated light in the bottom and you’re done. You can either place these directly on the ground or hang them from small shepherds hooks in your yard.
  • Use Chinese lanterns placed in strategic spots in your yard to add a soft glow so your guests can see at night. You can either buy stand alone ones or a entire string of them and hang them from your fences and trees.

These few ideas should give you an idea of how to be creative in your exterior lighting for your home; just remember to be creative and your guests will be wondering how you did it.
